People were confused about the identity of Jesus. When the disciples believed that Jesus was the Messiah, Jesus began to talk about his mission to die on the cross. Following Jesus means that we take on his identity as God’s beloved Son and his mission to carry the cross. God’s kingdom comes as we follow the king in his footsteps.
