Just as learning a new language cannot be accomplished by practicing one hour per week, learning about Jesus one hour in Sunday School is not enough to make our children into disciples of Jesus. In order to make our children into mature Christians, faith has to be taught and practiced at home. Despite the popular notion, parents remain the most important influence on the development of children & youth.
We believe that what is taught in church will have a greater impact when the same lesson is reinforced at home. At Cornerstone Church of Silicon Valley, parents teach the same Sunday School lesson during the family worship at home. Then, the whole family tries to put it into practice during the week. We also use the same bible text for adults and children in order to foster a dialogue about the bible story between parents and kids. We want to equip the parents to be disciple makers at home.
