Reflections on half a year’s worth of changes
June 23rd, 2008Wow, has it been six months since I last posted!
What a tumultuous time we have gone through together! Myanmar, the earthquakes, as well as the flooding in the Midwest, the continuing strife all around the world–you name it, we’ve seen it. Meanwhile the price of gas is rippling toward that 5 dollars a gallon mark that no one though probably in the US, and that’s not to even mention what has been happening to us on a personal level.
Times like this reminds me of Jesus’ words that the ultimate safe harbor we seek in our lives are not to be found on the shores of this world’s assurances. This is why he once challenged a rich young man to “Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Luke 18:22). This does not mean that we should simply give up on doing our best to help the people in our lives. Jesus was mighty pleased when Zacchaeus gave half of his property to the poor (Luke 19:8). But he was also pleased when he saw the poor widow offer two small coins–worth roughly about half a cent by our reckoning (Luke 21:2).
Certainly, for the Cornerstone family, we have had our ups and downs–more so than the usual. But through it all, the Lord has reminded us that He is faithful. And we have followed. That is our plan for the rest of our year. We plan on following where the Lord will continue to lead us.
