We could easily look at today’s as just a technical discussion about the Torah and how to follow the rules. However, Jesus is trying to help us understand these “rules” in a deeper way that will penetrate our hearts and our daily living. The examples he gives us all add up to a pretty radical call to be willing to give up all our lives to God’s control, so that we can be a part of God’s ministry and God’s story in the world. This is a very different call from the world’s expectation that we have our lives under control, according to society’s definitions of a good life.
