At Peniel, Jacob was blessed by God and was given a new name. Though he saw God’s face, Jacob was left alive. This was the approval and acceptance that Jacob needed. All human beings want to be accepted and loved. The good news is that we don’t have to make ourselves acceptable to God because Christ has earned it for us.
