September 17: “The Guardians of the Covenant” (Leviticus 9:1-7, 22-24)

In order for God to dwell among his people, God provided Israel with three things: the sacrifices, the tabernacle, and the priesthood. Last week, we looked at the sacrifices. Today, we will look at ancient Israel’s priesthood in relation to the tabernacle. Who were these priests? In short, they were the guardians of God’s covenant. How did they guard God’s covenant with Israel? One, they purified God’s dwelling from sin and impurities. Two, they taught God’s commandments to Israel so that they could live holy lives. Three, they administered sacrifices for the reconciliation of the relationship between God and his people. Both the tabernacle and the priesthood point to the ultimate temple and the ultimate high priest: Jesus Christ.
