December 3: “Setting Our Hope on Jesus” (1 Peter 1:13-16)

In the season of Advent, Christians light four candles to symbolize Jesus’ coming as the light of the world. The four candles represent hope, peace, joy, and love. As the light of life, Jesus brought a living hope into our dark world. Christian hope is shaped by looking back to the first advent of Christ and looking forward to his second advent. Setting our hope on Jesus has benefits for us in the present. First, we can expect God to show up in our lives today. Second, we are enabled to live holy lives.
