January 21: “Why Small Groups?” (Matthew 28:18-20, Hebrews 10:23-25)

What is the purpose of small groups? Jesus commanded us to teach people to obey everything Jesus commanded. We learn to obey Christ in order to be more like Christ. That is discipleship. The purpose of small groups is discipleship in the context of community. The role of small group leaders is to help people grow by caring for them and helping them learn from the Word. They also encourage members to care for one another. All Christians are called to care for one another and build each other up.
