March 29: “The Passion of Christ” (Psalm 22:6-21)

On the cross, Jesus oscillates between his suffering and his trust in the Father. But Jesus does not let his suffering and abandonment tempt him to doubt the Father’s love. Jesus completely trusts the Father till the end and prays for deliverance. Though Jesus could have saved himself from the cross, he endured the cross to save many lives. The rest of the Psalm celebrates God’s answer and God’s rule over the nations.
Can we confess with Paul, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ”? Can we also ask God to save us from whatever is tempting us?
